Weekend Getaway - Hong Kong - August 2012

My friends and I went to Hong Kong for the weekend and we had a lot of fun.  They even agreed to go to Cheung Chau (長州) with me on a hot summer day - yay!

We started off the day with a brunch at Oolaa.  It's an upscale French bistro located in Sheung Wan (上環).

On the way to the Central Pier, I finally tried the famous milk tea from Lan Fong Yuan (蘭芳園) .  We also passed by the Abercrombie & Fitch flagship store, which is opening on August 11, 2012, on Peddler Street, Central.  I can't believe we missed the hot models!!!  (The models were selected from all over the world and were touring the city topless throughout the week preceding the opening.  I am not joking but just about every girl in Hong Kong went crazy.)

overrated in my opinion...

The ferry ride to Cheung Chau took about 40 minutes (we boarded the "fast" boat).  Cheung Chau reminds me a lot of Gulangyu (鼓浪嶼) in Xiamen, China and old Coloane (路環) in Macau.  Most of the locals are fishermen and there are plenty of seafood restaurants on the island.  Although there are fewer choices, the quality is comparable to Sai Kung (西貢), Hong Kong and a lot cheaper.  Overall, it's a good place to relax with friends for an afternoon.  There are bicycles for rent on the island but I wouldn't recommend it if you are going on a weekend.  The island is simply too crowded.

this was excellent!

On Sunday, we had brunch at a local cafe.  Met up with another friend and played with her dog for a bit.  Had afternoon tea at the Parlour at the Hullett House (see details on this post here) in TST...  Missing the A&F hot guys all the way (by +/- 2 hours EVERY time)  Shopped a little at Harbor City in TST and finally Japanese katsu dinner at Tonkichi.  Had to walk home when we return to Macau because it was raining and the taxi line was a mile long... :'(

delicious!
My body was so sore after the trip but it was a lot of fun!
