Day Trip - Macau

I am back from my vacation!!  There will be plenty of updating to do~~~ both trips (China + Japan) were awesome and I had tons of fun!  It will take me some time before I organized everything from these trips so please be patient.

In additional to all the traveling, I have been busy showing my friends from all over the world around my hometown lately.  One of the most frequently asked question I get is "what can you do in Macau if you don't want to go to the casinos?"  You may be surprised but there are lots of things you can do in Macau aside from gambling.  Read on for a day-trip packed with my favorite restaurants and point of interests that don't have anything to do with casinos.

By the way, I re-joined Instagram again just so I could share with you my travel photos.  (It was the only thing that worked in China that links to my Facebook page.)

10:00 - Lord Stow's Garden Cafe, Coloane

Whether you are arriving by ferry or by air, there are buses that will take you to Coloane.  Take #26 from the airport or take #10B / #10X from the Macau Ferry Teminal and transfer to #50 at M172 Praca Ferreira Amaral / 亞馬喇前地.  If buses are too much for you to handle, you can always take a taxi.  It will cost you MOP$100+ from the Macau Ferry Terminal.  The cafe is just across the street from the bus stop (C659 Vila de Coloane-2 / 路環市區-2).

Here you can enjoy the most popular Portuguese egg tarts that has earned world wide (?) fame.  If you don't want to travel this far, you can always go for Margaret's but Lord Stow's has the best egg tarts in my opinion.  (Note: Margaret was Lord Stow's wife.)

11:30 - Coloane

Walk around the quaint little town after breakfast and enjoy the laid back lifestyle of old Macau.  (This is how Macau is like when I grew up and I missed it dearly.)  On our way, we met this cute chow (鬆獅犬) named "Mon" (檬).  He is such a chilled dog.  His owner said he is so used to crazed tourist screaming and taking pictures of him (us included).

I used to pick up crabs from the shore here.
There weren't so many buildings / construction on the other side either.

This is a super friendly cat.

I said it before but if I would ever get my own dog, it will be a chow.  I just love how dumb and fluffy it looks.

12:00 - Dim Sum Lunch @ Golden Palace

Take the bus back to M172 Praca Ferreira Amaral (亞馬喇前地), transfer to bus #12 or hope on a taxi.  The restaurant is not too far from Praca Ferreira Amaral so it actually makes more sense, especially if you are hungry.

My friend wanted to try the pigeon after she saw the picture from my earlier post.

In addition to the pigeon, we also ordered a good variety of dim sum.  We were so stuffed after this meal!!!  I have a separate post dedicated to Golden Palace's Dim Sum here.

14:30 - Sightseeing (Cultural)

As my friends wish to see the history and cultural aspects of Macau, we took a taxi to the Casa Memorativa Sun Yat Sen (國父紀念館) and slowly made our way to the Lou Lim, Ieoc Garden (盧廉若公園), 仁慈堂婆仔屋, 荷蘭園, 白馬巷 and eventually ended up snacking along the souvenir shops leading to the Ruins of St. Paul (大三巴).

16:00 - Souvenir Shopping

After picking up some yummy snacks from 鉅記, I took my friend to 華聯 @ 十月初五街 to buy tea.  We had a lot of fun over the tea session.  I think it must be the caffeine .. Since we were too full for an afternoon snack, we walk around some more, making our way back to 樟堂, Senado Square, and Nam Van.

19:00 - Dinner @ Henry's Galley Restaurant

Of course I have to take my friends to my favorite Portuguese restaurant and tried the yummy Galinha à Africana (African Chicken)!  We didn't order too much since we were still so full from all the eating during the day.

21:00 - Desserts @ 杏香園

Even though we were full, there is always another stomach for desserts.  Right?

22:00 - Took the bus back to the Macau Ferry Terminal and my friends made it on the last Kowloon ferry back to Hong Kong!

Yeah~  another successful trip!  Hope you gals had as much fun as I did :)
