The next village we stopped at is Xiao Qi (曉起). The village is very similar to everyone else we have been to in Wuyuan. Nevertheless, the old pathway linking the upper and lower village is a must-see.

There were very few tourist in lower Xiao Qi, a drastic difference compared to upper Xiao Qi. I prefer lower Xiao Qi better, as it was less crowded and there was also a very nice rest area by the stream..

We were waiting for our friend who just arrived at Wuyuan from Nanchang (南昌) and we were told there was mad traffic on the main road leading to the village. As a result, we found a random place and ate a simple lunch. Food was alright. Since there was no expectation, there was no disappointment. The added bonus: we avoided the rush hour traffic! Looking back, I would recommend joining one of the local families to eat and experience real farm food. Most of them charge a very modest fee (e.g. RMB$20 per person).
